J. McGlade (Executive Director, European Environment Agency)
Today we are faced with an ever-changing environment and need answers to a series of complex, inter-related questions. Science needs to provide clear evidence-based hypotheses on how we can tackle some of these local, and increasingly global, challenges. Decisions have far-reaching effects, and so those who have to make these important policies must be supported by the very best advice available. Furthermore, as the public become more empowered to influence the democratic process, any evidence must be open. This talk will highlight some recent work at the European Environment Agency, in particular the use of visualisation to aid our understanding of the spatial planning problems that exist throughout Europe.
