Industrial Applied Mathematics in Ireland

J. Wright (University of Limerick, Ireland)

This minisymposium will showcase current research in industrial applied mathematics in Ireland. The Mathematics Applications Consortium for Science and Industry (MACSI) was formed in 2006 in response to a growing need for collaboration between academic mathematicians and industry in Ireland and to train mathematics postgraduates in modern mathematical modelling techniques. Industrial problems are presented to the cross-institutional group of researchers in interactive workshops; the resulting problems form the basis of a funded research programme for postdoctoral fellows and postgraduates. A selection of these problems will be discussed from applications in wind-forecasting, aircraft icing, biosensors, bubbly flows, semiconductor devices, and networks.
