Spares Optimisation Simulation Based Analysis - adding realism to mathematical modelling
N. C. Chamberlain (LSC Group, UK)
Spares Optimisation is the study of the availability of an asset which is affected by the number and location of its components within the supply chain. If the asset is a bake bean can in a supermarket store, the strategy is less critical than an essential military system located on a flotilla of ships in the middle of the ocean. It is therefore important to understand the dynamics of asset failure rates, use of a helicopter to share resources, how to manage sparing strategy. To handle this complex problem, the notion of a coupled simulation model at different granular levels is introduced.
